"How to Start Over and Thrive: Lessons from Finnigan Begin Again"

Updated: Mar 17

Welcome Finnigan! And a huge thanks to Heather Paix and Finnigan's owner Susan Paix from Patchwork Park Equestrian https://www.patchworkparkequestriancentre.com/

Heather kindly listened to my story about losing my horse Rad and said she might have just the horse for me. But he wasn't currently for sale! Notably Heather is carving out her own dressage career and bringing on several horses through the dressage ranks https://www.patchworkparkequestriancentre.com/the-humans

Finnigan had been trained by Heather's mother, Susan Paix, a International Grand Prix rider who had ridden him for over 2 years whilst she was recovering from a serious injury. Susan had recently commenced training another warmblood mare, Molly, and as their working partnership grew Finn inevitably started to to take a back seat. Although he was still being brought on magnificently.

To my delight these 2 seriously impressive horsewomen decided, after my sister, Bryony's and my visit to Snake Valley to meet him, that Finn and I were a match. Susan is herself a woman in her 60's and she decided that I would look after her beloved horse and dote on him as much as she did. I have stopped the carrots!

So in my 60's I aim to commence my dressage riding career in 2024. And to ride at Elementary Level with Finn when we are ready. Needless to say Finn and I will attend as many bootcamps back at Patchwork as my time and finances allow. https://www.patchworkparkequestriancentre.com/bootcamp

A Special Mentor

I have appointed myself onto Susan Paix's cheer squad as she overcomes what, for most would have been a career ending injury, and builds back to riding and owning her next Grand Prix horse, Molly. Her courage, persistence and dedication is awe-inspiring.

Susan and her mare Etiquette enjoyed the longest standing combination at International level in Australia for seven and a half years.

With her permission I aim to share Susan and Molly's progress with my clients and readers. There is so much we can learn from Susan in how to overcome adversity and retain your belief and persistence. Whatever the Odds.
